Piping Repair & Replacement in the South Sound Area

When Pipes Start to Fail: What to Watch For

Old, damaged, or poorly installed piping can lead to everything from leaks to serious structural problems. At Olympic Plumbing Technology, we help Olympia homeowners catch the warning signs early — saving money, water, and headaches down the line. If you’ve noticed any of the following, it may be time to take a closer look at your pipes:

  • Frequent Leaks or Water Damage: Recurring puddles or damp spots could indicate worn-out pipes behind walls or under floors.

  • Rusty or Discolored Water: Corrosion in metal piping can taint your water supply and lead to pipe failure.

  • Low or Unstable Water Pressure: Blockages, scale buildup, or pipe deterioration may be restricting flow.

  • Unusual Noises in the Walls: Banging or whistling sounds can be a sign of loose pipes or pressure imbalance.

  • Visible Corrosion or Cracks: Aging pipes under sinks or in basements may show flaking, rust, or surface damage.

  • Outdated Materials (Galvanized or Polybutylene): Older pipe types are prone to breakage and should be replaced for safety and efficiency.

Their communication and scheduling needs a look at as they missed the Thursday PM window and barely made the Friday AM window but the actual visit made up for it. The men were the perfect service men you would want to visit your house. 5 stars for the work 1 star off for the scheduling hassles.

We’ve used Olympic Plumbing in the past for toilet replacements and was extremely pleased. Our technician for this second visit replaced our bathroom faucets and shower fixtures and worked through several faulty issues with our existing plumbing and fixtures; mitigating leaks in the process. Big kudos to our plumber, Dylan, who was very pleasant and an excellent tradesman. We will definitely call them back again. Well done!

Our home has been serviced by Olympic Plumbing ever since we purchased it. We have received excellent service from each of the team members and it’s not a surprise that Dylan was also excellent at water heater maintenance and being willing to provide a quote for other plumbing projects planned in the future. I can’t recommend these folks enough. Give them a call.

Steve from Olympic Plumbing showed up on time, was professional and knowledgeable, explained how he was going to assess the problem (shower not draining/toilet backed up) in the downstairs bathroom; and when he was finished, showed me on his camera just what he discovered (no pipe damage thankfully)...and left the bathroom spotless.

Nick from Olympic Plumbing Technology met with me today to provide an estimate to replace the water main pipe that runs from the curbside meter to our homes water main shutoff; about a 40ft run from the meter. The City of Puyallup notified us of a suspected leak. Initial guidance from the utility worker was to shut-off our home water main line and watch the water meter; if it's still spinning, the leak is in between the meter and the home. Not inside the house. We did this test and the meter kept spinning with our home water main turned off. BUMMER!! The leaking pipe is about 40 years old and sprung a leak underground. Nick met with us and what a great experience!! He is very knowledgeable and thoroughly explained our options with a detailed scope of work breakdown. I had done enough research and spoke with another outdoor plumber that did not leave me with the feeling I would want to work with him. We decided to go with Olympic Plumbing Technology and agreed to 1 of the options to replace the water line. Before Nick left he had already teed up the "Call Before you Dig" service and scheduled a crew to start work in 5 days. I will follow up after the actual work is completed and finish this review. Follow Up November 6, 2025.: The work started Monday morning 8:00am and completed the replacement of our water main Tuesday afternoon. The crew was on time every day as well as the concrete company, Evergreen Concrete Cutting, sub-contracted by Olympic to replace the sidewalk that had to be removed to complete the work. Everyone I dealt with at Olympic Plumbing Technology from the beginning of the process, during the project, to signing off on the project on Tuesday was an good experience. I spoke of Nick above, he was our go-to guy and ran this project in a way that made it all seem seamless, he took care of everything, and the on-site crew was also outstanding at dealing with a very difficult access to our foundation. It was about a 40ft run of glacial marine rocks. That's Puyallup's South Hill for you, digging a hole requires a crowbar...for real. The other complexity was the water main was also running underground with power lines, cable lines, gas line, and a telecom cable too. All within a 20 sq. ft. area. See pic We were notified by the City of Puyallup of the leak on 10/27 and the project was completed today 11/6 with the Evergreen taking down the barricade to protect the fresh sidewalk concrete. If you have a gnarly problem come up, like you home water main is leaking underground, Olympic Plumbing Technology should be your first call.
