How do you know when you need a professional drain cleaning? Here are the warning signs!

Drains are an important part of your home’s plumbing system, and need regular cleaning to keep small issues from getting worse. How do you know when you have a minor clog or need to call a professional to clean the drains? Here are the warning signs that can help you tell the difference:

Unpleasant Smells: Bad smells coming from your can be due to minor issues, such as food caught in the garbage disposal – however, if the problem is persistent throughout the house, you may have a blocked drain that requires professional plumbing assistance.

Slow Drains: Before pipes become completely clogged, they often begin to drain slowly – not just in one area of the house, but all of them. Slow drainage in one area of the house can be due to one clogged pipe, but if both all pipes are experiencing slow drainage, you have a larger problem.

No Drainage: If you can unclog a sink, but it becomes blocked again frequently, it is usually a sign that something is going on further down the line. Worse yet is if multiple areas of the house are experiencing clogs. This points to a clog in the main sewer line, and it is time to seek professional help.

Backflow: This is when sewage washes up from one drain when you run water in another area of the house. This is a sign of a serious clog in the sewage line, and it requires immediate attention from a plumber.
